Tousled:
The tousled ponytail, favoured by celebrities including Blaeke Lively, is a look that is sexy, sophisticated without feeling as though it is trying too hard.
Make sure there is plenty of volume in the tail with some back combing and choosing sections to run through some curling tongs.
Pull a few strand out of the ponytail to sit around the face to soften the look. Whether you're going for casual, the office or something more formal this is a look that is highstreet or red carpet worthy with minimal effort.
Quiffed:
When pulling all the hair straight away from the face it can look quite strict. One of the best ways to avoid this is to add plenty of volume on top.
To start with, take the top section of your hair and clip with as much volume as you want the ponytail to have. Take the rest of your hair and put it into a mid-high height ponytail. If you want to, remove some of the clips and add a volumising spray and pump up gently with a brush. If not, secure clips in place.
Low:
Set to be a big hit next season, a defined, straight parting and pulled back hair is a sure way to wear your hair.
Wearing the ponytail low can not only be a great casual look but look great with a 50s or 60s Mad Men inspired mode dress for a winter night out.
To the side:
This look has become very popular. Lightly bring the hair to your favoured side and tie at the bottom of your neck. Clip some of the stray strands into place, but leave some to help softly frame the face and balance the pontail.
Lightly take small strand and thread them through curling tongs - the feel should be a natural wave, so the curls shouldn't be too contrived. The look is perfect for an evening out as it looks classy and mature.
Sleek:
Something simple is the best and a sleek high ponytail can be just that. Again a favourite look on the red carpet for many A-listers including Lea Michele, Amy Adams, Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively, this look can be super sexy when it's done right.
Make sure that there are no loose hairs with this do and make the hair even more manageable and smooth by blow drying the hair back with a round brush.
Gently begin to bring the hair back, not too high, too fast as this may lead to a wonky ponytail. Similarly, try not to pull the hair too tight as you may find it start to bulge around the bobble after a while.
Keep the tail straight and the hair at the head smooth. For an extra shine, why not rub a little argan oil onto the hair. It not only keeps the hair strong and healthy, but will give it a glow if you're wearing this do out with any flashing lights!
Don't forget to make the most of your eyes with your hair pulled away from your face - make them your number one feature. Smokey eye shadow and give it big licks with the mascara.
