A new year brings new possibilities although you may be thinking that the thought of a normal spring and summer is not looking hopeful with the third lockdown in full swing. However I like to remain positive and what better way to cheer yourself up than by partaking in some online retail therapy. Being well prepared for the possibility of some outings this spring/summer has never been more exciting, even if it is only a walk in the park. So, here’s six of the must have trends that will be coming this spring/summer so you can be ahead of the game this year.

Cut Outs
This is a trend that has appeared all over the catwalks and it appears the sky's the limit for the amount of cutting out you want to go for. Fendi and Carolina Herrera have stuck to the area between the waist and rib cage which is perfect for extenuating the waist and spices up the overall outfit by giving some edge. However if you are looking for a more conservative way of incorporating the cut out vibe, you can take inspiration from Prada and their take on the cut out trend. Match a high neck top which has small cutouts on the arms and chest but still remains modest being paired with a mid length skirt and kitten heels.
Monochrome
Black and white. The most simple but effective combination for any outfit has also appeared on this year's catwalks. There is no wrong way to style black and white the potentials are endless however if you are in need of some inspiration you can look no further. Gabriela Hearst and Ports 1961 have opted for longline dresses in which one half is black and the other white to give an elegant evening look. If that’s not your thing you could follow the suit of Dolce and Gabbana and Christopher John Rogers, who must’ve been overdoing it with the lockdown board games as they have used the checkerboard design paired with contrasting floral print accessories.
Midriff Flossing
This is one trend I will be waiting to wear in the summer, after eating and drinking everything in sight over christmas. It refers to loosely crisscrossed cords and wrap around details which can be attached from tops, skirts or combined with the cutout trend. Take the lead with Versace and Michael Kors and opt for a cropped top with the flossing attached to wrap round the midriff. Be daring like Paco Rabanne who have combined cutout and wrap around straps in their dresses.
Floaty Maxi Dresses
A perfect staple for any holiday or sunny day as the loose fit material keeps you cool whilst looking glam all day long. Any colours or patterns are welcome it seems hues of pink and red were the most popular on the catwalk being used by designers such as Valentino, Rick Owens and Dior. Add a belt like Giambattista Valli to give a cinched waist and more fitted look if the loose fit is not to your taste. Michael Kors stayed in touch with nature and kept it simple with an olive green, strappy, loose fit dress which was paired with a simple dark grey bag.
Wide Leg
Another style which is amazing in the hot weather although at the minute any sign of the sun seems like a distant dream. I am not always a lover of overly baggy trousers but paired with heels and the right top it can be a match made in heaven. Balenciaga showed off the wide leg trend through blue denim jeans giving us a retro feel styled with statement earrings and sunglasses. It is a perfect fit for a summer day. Chanel showed us their take on the wide leg trouser with a barbie pink high waist trouser, no Chanel outfit is complete without a good accessory so it was paired with a thin chain belt to give an extra glam feel.
Metallic and Sequins
It seems to have been a while since any of us put on sequins and sparkles but what better time to add some glam to our wardrobe even if we have to wait until the end of March to break them out. Balmain showed us a showstopper with a silver, sparkly, strappy dress it definitely gave me Kendall Jenner vibes from the dress she wore for her 21st birthday. If dresses aren’t your thing designers such as Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton and Gucci showed the sparkle through jumpsuits, trousers and blazers. It seemed the colour palette for Gucci was a colourful one with them sticking to the iconic green and adding some red and purple. So don’t think of only gold and silver sequins, go crazy with colour!
