Well it’s here again- the month you dread and look forward to in equal measure! One thing that will make life easier is having a clear space for wrapping presents and writing cards so here are some things you can get rid of in order to make room.
Socks: Check your sock drawer- you may have thrown away any socks that didn’t have a partner but there are always pairs that have holes in them or are discoloured from being washed with the wrong things. It’s time to let them go and move on.
Packaging: If you aren’t always efficient at getting rid of packets and boxes from your post, now is the time to do so. At this time of year, you will likely receive more items through your door than any other. In which case, you need to keep on top of what comes through your letterbox.
Bath products: Perhaps you were given some bath salts last Christmas and never got around to using them. It’s possible you hate bath bombs yet were gifted one anyway. Maybe you bought a candle for when you take a bath and hate the smell. If so, relieve your bathroom of the extra weight and purge.
Booze: Some booze has an expiry date on it like beer, lager and cider, so if you are planning on having guests over at Christmas make sure that it’s all in date. Or if you have something that is not to your taste- give it to a friend or family member or donate it for a raffle prize at your local Christmas fair.
Sticky stuff: I’m talking about syrups, honey and sweet sauces that always gum up your cupboards. Check their dates and see if they are still edible. Honey of course doesn’t have a best before date, but if you have no intention of using it- give it away.
Apps: Review the apps on your phone and delete any that you downloaded but never used. This will not only make your phone screen more appealing to look at, but it will also increase the space on there.
Your brew cupboard: Do you have old tea, coffee, cocoa and hot chocolate sitting at the back of the cupboard that hasn’t been touched in an age? If this sounds like your kitchen- there no time like the present to declutter the drinks you will never drink.
Birthday cards: If you kept your cards from this year or last- not because they are sentimental but because they never made it to the recycling- make sure they reach the bin this time.
Watches: If you have a bunch of watches and only ever wear one- perhaps you need to reduce these down to a sensible number. You could sell them if they are worth something and use the money for something you actually use, or you could give them away to a willing recipient.
Fur: This may sound like an unusual choice, but if you have a fur coat you never wear- let someone else enjoy it. Perhaps you have a pet that is always shedding their fur- in which case- give your home a deep clean and declutter all the fur that is lurking in those hard to reach areas- like under the bed.
