We all know your purse or wallet can become a dumping ground for unnecessary papers. It can look less like a place to store your money and more like a mini filing cabinet if it’s left untouched for a period of time. Here are some things that you can get rid of and make space for what it’s intended for.

Receipts: Remove any receipts and shred them if you no loner need them. If you might need to return something have one place where these papers go that isn’t in your purse that you carry around every day.

Old gift cards: If you have used up gifts cards- why are you holding onto the card still? This is an easy thing to let go of if you are certain that it’s empty. If you decide to get another down the line- the cashier will give you a new one.

Stamp cards: Stamp cards encourage you to keep shopping for things you don’t need. Like coffee which you could be making at home for instance. If the only reason you are going to a particular place is so you can redeem your points in the future- think about the money you would have to spend to get there.

Store point cards: Store point cards are much like stamp cards in that they encourage you to spend money with a brand when you could be getting it cheaper or free elsewhere. Ask yourself when the last time you used the card was. If you can’t remember- it’s clear that you don’t need that particular store as much as you thought you did.

Vouchers and coupons: If the vouchers are for things that you usually buy- this will save you money so they are worth keeping. With that said, if the vouchers are for something you don’t normally buy- you may be getting a discount, but you will still be spending more than you need to. It may be 50% off but it’s still 50% more than you were planning to spend in the first place.

Business cards: If someone gives you a business card- put the info in your phone right away and then recycle the card. Or simply ask the person for their details immediately so you don’t have to take a card from them. If you have any lurking in your purse- do the same and lessen the paper that you’re carrying around with you.

Sentimental items: Some people choose to carry around photos and wallet cards from friends and family members. There is nothing wrong with this- however if you are looking to reduce the amount that you carry about your person- take a photo of the picture and store it on your phone and do the same with your wallet cards so you can still enjoy the words. If you were to lose your purse or if someone steals your purse- these things will be gone forever. Better to keep them safe at home while still being able to view them while you are out and about.
