While we are all stuck inside, it can be tempting to look to shopping for some kind of fulfilment. When you are a minimalist or trying to be one- this is the last thing you will want to do. If you are struggling to fill in your time with simple intentional activities over this festive lockdown- here are some suggestions.

Watch a movie or series: Go onto your chosen streaming service and watch a Christmas movie or series to get you in the mood for what is to come. This could be an old favourite or a new offering- either way it's a bit of escapism. Nothing is more relaxing than watching other people cook for lots of people, spend money and get stressed about the big day when you aren’t doing any of those things!

Read a book on your Kindle: Download a festive read, curl up with a blanket and a mug of something indulgent and get reading. There is something very cosy and satisfying about reading in the warmth of your own home when there is a chill in the air outside.

Declutter your Christmas themed stuff: This could be decorations, ugly Christmas sweaters or wrapping supplies- whatever got out of hand since last year- don’t let it drag over into this year. Then once the charity shops reopen you can donate all of the things just in time for the big day so chances are they will sell like hot cakes.

Watch a show: You may not be able to get to your local theatre this year- but there are plenty of shows being streamed online this Christmas to offer a happy medium. You could even pull up your favourite Christmas pantomime on YouTube and watch that if you’re looking for a giggle and some silliness.

Donate money to your favourite charity: If you’ve managed to put some money by this year because of reduced travels costs, less or no trips, holidays and adventures, why not give some to a charity that is close to your heart? Charities have really suffered in 2020 and would benefit from your kindness, especially at this time of year.

Take a walk around your neighbourhood: This could be around your local village, town or city, which all look stunning at this time of year when the lights are shining brightly and there is no one else around. Pick your favourite display and vow to walk by it again to marvel at its beauty. This activity will not only increase your step count but it’s socially distant too- a win-win.

Have a bubble bath with extra ‘snow’: Put some extra bubbles in your bath this year so you can enjoy a white Christmas even if it’s still green outside!

Happy Christmas to all the minimalists out there!
