Last year the nation was bathed in the red, white and blue of the Union Flag, with our streets, our homes and even our clothes a riot of patriotic colour, but it seems our love affair with colour was a brief one and Britain has returned to being a drab and colourless nation.
Harsh, but true according to new research released which shows that most of us are scared of expressing ourselves with colour, preferring cream and white on our walls and black and grey in our wardrobes.
The study shows that while 57% would like more colour in their lives, 38% are not confident about wearing it and more than a third are scared of it in the home, preferring to play it safe with neutrals, with around 1 in 10 saying there is no colour in their lives at all.
When it comes to our interiors, 4 in 10 want their homes to reflect their personality but 48% say their home-style shows they are comfortable and practical people – with white and cream the colour choice for 62% in the living room, 49% in the kitchen, 48% in the bathroom and 46% in the bedroom.
A quarter of those surveyed by Crown Paints say they are not adventurous with colour because they prefer neutral colours that don't go out of fashion.
But is our fear of colour and love of safe, comfortable neutrals colouring Britain boring?
And if you would like a bit more colour in your life, then what's the secret to choosing classy shades that don't make you look like a clown and your home look like a circus?
