Giles Deacon and his new sofa
Giles Deacon has flaunted his design skills once more, this time using them to create a stylish piece for the home.
The beautiful piece, named Lipgloss, boasts a monochrome colour scheme with falshes of bright orange to draw the eye in.
Giles has taken his talent in playful design and his eye for statement prints to create a bold sofa synonymous with his renowned catwalk pieces.
Known for taking inspiration from pop culture, Giles has brought his visionary design aesthetic to the home by using fun street art style lips as the focal point of his creation.
The shape makes use of strong, clean lines and a modern box silhouette to create a contemporary feel.
The sofa is perfect for anyone looking for a striking feature piece for their living room, or for fashionistas looking to bring some designer style to their home at a high street price.
“Naturally as a fashion designer, I wanted to draw on my own unique experience and design insight. From the beginning of the process, I had a really clear vision of what I wanted to create. I call it sophistipop, mixing clean lines with a daring, arresting print to create a standout feature piece that draws the eye. There is one dress in particular that I designed for my SS13 collection that inspired me to create the final design.
“In terms of the shape, I wanted to create a standout contemporary silhouette, but I also wanted to deliver something that was functional and comfortable to sit on. Working collaboratively with the DFS design and development team was a great learning experience. Their years of experience of hand crafting sofas here in the UK helped me understand how best to balance my design vision with functionality.”
From mid-September, the limited edition sofa and footstool will be available to buy online at DFS.co.uk and in DFS’ flagship London store on Tottenham Court Road. Handmade in the UK, each sofa will come with a numbered certificate of authenticity personally signed by Giles Deacon.
Giles Deacon is also collaborating with DFS to launch the DFS Design Foundation, an innovative new student bursary scheme designed to promote and nurture young British design talent.
