UK women have been inspired by the interiors on popular sitcoms and dramas that they’ve actually gone out and bought similar furniture and interior design features to ‘get the look’ for their own homes, which seems to be at a rather expensive price.

The inspiration has come from dramas and sit coms that we love to watch and simply can’t get enough of! Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment was voted the greatest TV living space ever. It’s quite easy to see why with her lavish home that we can’t help but admire. But the jay dropping statement was THE walk-in wardrobe! Come one girls, we would love this in our homes, right?

Despite leaving the small screen almost a decade ago, it would seem its interior design influence has not dwindled. It has been credited with starting an obsession for walk-in wardrobes and the research has found that 37% of British home owners rate Sarah Jessica Parker’s apartment from Sex and the City as seen, as the greatest living space to have ever graced television screens.

The study done by ‘More Than,’ which involved 1,700 female homeowners, discovered that period dramas such as Downtown Abbey, are held in the highest regard by women all over the UK. With the exquisite Edwardian interiors, Downtown Abbey was voted the second greatest TV living place by women, with the favourite pieces being the period wooden furniture and imposing fire places and chandeliers.

The super-chic retro apartment of Don Draper in Mad Men was voted third thanks to its classically 60s shag pile rug and ultra-trendy Danish wooden furniture ticking all of the right design boxes.

However, Del Boy’s Peckham pad from Only Fools and Horses was voted as the worst example of interior design ever. 98% of women shuddered at the thought of palm tree wallpaper, heart-shaped headboards, tiger rugs and brown floral curtains.

Matthew Poll of ‘More Than’ Home Insurance, commented: “There are countless TV programmes, magazines and books dedicated to inspiring interior design; however, it’s fascinating to see just how many homeowners are turning to sitcoms, dramas as a source of inspiration for their own homes.”

He added: “Given how much time we invest in TV shows it’s perhaps not surprising that those same living spaces leave an indelible impression on homeowners and some clearly come at a significant cost. We all have out prized possessions and it’s important that all homeowners ensure they have appropriate cover for the furniture and features they have spent so much time and money on.”
