My ethos; and that of my business 'Noushka Design', is that each and every interior should be an outward reflection of the individual's style and personality.
The easiest way of achieving this is by adorning your walls with art work that you connect with; and most importantly, that makes you happy and content.
Art can be far more than a visual delight. It has the ability to evoke feelings and portray emotions, and the power to translate these for the world to see.
Anouska Lancaster's Top 10 Tips for choosing art work personal to you/expressing your personality :
- Choose art work that you are instantly drawn to, and that you literally 'cannot live without'. If you have to think about it, or you need to convince yourself; then it's not for you.
- Pick an artist that you resonate with. It may be that they have a similar story to you, or they paint subject matter that is close to you heart.
- If you love paintings of particular places, then choose cities and landmarks where you've lived or visited yourself. It may be New York City or Paris. This way your art work will bring back fond memories and will tell your life story.
- Try and choose art work that reflects your personal style. You should get peace and joy from the art on your walls.
- Go to galleries and exhibitions for inspiration. Make a mental note of the feelings that different styles and genres evoke. You will undoubtedly remember your favourites, which is a clear indication of your personal style.
- Look at art work online, and on social media. Instagram is a great way of discovering new; up and coming artists trying to get noticed. These new artists will be selling their art cheaper than the better known artists, so you may even pick up a bargain.
- Art is a great investment. Speak to experts in galleries about their opinions on the artists to watch, and which pieces of art work they feel are likely to increase in value.
- Create your own art work. As well as creating something personal to you, painting is a great stress reliever. Being creative releases endorphins and takes your mind off negative emotions. Think of it as a trip to the gym for your mind!
- If budget is a problem, then buy cheap art work from the high street or your local supermarket. It can then be personalised by adding crystals, spray paint or gold/silver leaf from shops such as hobbycraft to create your own 'original'.
- Don't rush into buying a piece of art for the sake of it. If you haven't seen something that you truly love then patiently wait for the right one. When you see the art that is meant for you, you'll know.
