Command brand by 3M has teamed up with leading Interior Designer, Pippa Jameson who has used the products to create a fabulous – on trend feature wall for the spring/summer.
Choose the area in your home that you wish to update, it may be the wall running up the stairs, a quiet reading area or simply the space above your sofa that needs an injection of style and colour. My grey wall is the perfect backdrop for a seasonal update - it’s all about refreshing your existing scheme and transforming a tired area within your home.
Plan your colour palette – what colours do you like and what is your existing décor? If you are looking for on trend colours then buy a few interiors magazines and see what’s hot. I would recommend sticking to a maximum of three colours and combine them with a highlighting colour such as cream or white. I chose slate grey, mustard and red highlighted with splashes of white, as they are the colours of the moment.
Select the items you wish to hang and remember, you don’t have to stick to pictures. I used reclaimed letters and numbers, vintage boards, flags, a lightweight coat hook, and some quirky objects such as a parrot lamp and a white china pigeon! Think about the shape of the items you are hanging and try to balance the display in terms of the composition.
I would recommend laying all the items out on the floor to see if the arrangement works before you commit to hanging. Of course, if you are using Command Picture Hanging Strips from 3M, which I do, you can easily swap them about if it doesn’t look quite right first time.
Work out which size of Command Picture Hanging Strips are the most suitable for the item you want to hang by checking the weight of the item against the maximum weight detailed on the packs. Four sets of Large Picture Hanging Strips can hold up to 7.2kg. I used a mixture of the Command hanging strips and the picture clips which were perfect.
One final tip! I used a set of vintage coat hooks as part of my update, this is an ideal way of updating the look as you can hang a variety of things from it making the display different each time. However, remember to consider the weight of what you are hanging.
