The survey of over 1,000 people carried out by household cleaning brand bizzybee, looked in to the cleaning habits of the nation and revealed some surprising statistics, from what our hands say about us, to when we do or don’t choose to wear rubber gloves.

Despite being one of the dirtiest cleaning tasks almost half (48.4%) of respondents claimed they never wear gloves when approaching the unappealing task of cleaning their toilet.

Surprisingly the younger generation appear to be more clued up when it comes to cleaning the lavatory with just 29.6% of 18-24 year olds going gloveless, rising to 53.4% of respondents between the ages of 55-64.

Putting a spotlight on male bravado, women are almost twice as likely to wear gloves whilst doing the washing up, with just 21% of men willing to put a pair of gloves on to protect their skin from dirt, grease, soaps and detergent, not to mention hot water.

This unique research undertaken by bizzybee, manufacturer of rubber gloves, cloths and scourers, also highlighted the public’s perception of what your hands say about you; with 68% of respondents agreeing that your hands can be an easy way of telling someone’s age.

Beccy Sandhar, a spokesperson from bizzybee, said: "Our research has revealed some shocking statistics on the nation’s cleaning habits. Cleaning tasks in the home such as the toilet, oven and shower often require very hot water, cleaning detergents, chemicals and a lot of elbow grease which can put a lot of strain on our hands.

"Wearing rubber gloves whilst performing all cleaning tasks protects from the spread of germs as well as keeping your hands safe from anything cleaning can throw at them.

"Our hands are hard workers and with the vast majority of people agreeing that looking after your hands is important, there really is no excuse to not wear your gloves when cleaning."
