Byrne has created a short, witty comedy sketch about recycling - to be released exclusively as an online viral clip - to encourage us to think about the three quarters of a million tonnes of extra waste English households will create this Christmas(1), and the 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 this will generate(2).
The amount of extra rubbish produced over Christmas is staggering, there are lots of simple things people can do to help cut this down.

"The sketch is a light-hearted approach to a serious issue and aims to get the message across that although the amount of extra rubbish produced over Christmas is staggering, there are lots of simple things people can do to help cut this down.
"Recycling is an easy way to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and help tackle climate change. The extra waste we create at Christmas produces 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 - the same as producing enough energy as that required to enable all the households in Leeds and Doncaster to watch TV for a year(3)."
The three minute piece sees Byrne delivering a clever, humorous performance based on startling festive waste facts and quirky tips. With an ingenious comedy spin, he highlights how each family will throw away an extra five sacks of waste over Christmas(4), while offering advice on how to address this.
It also encourages viewers to recycle their Christmas cards and help the Woodland Trust and Recycle Now achieve their target of recycling 100 million Christmas cards to plant 24,000 trees(5).
