Home wares experts have revealed a nation obsessed with its own reflection, by identifying mirrors of all shapes and sizes as the most sought-after home products of 2008. The UK’s leading home wares website, mydeco.com, analysed shopping habits with over 700 retailers to find that mirrors were most popular home wares item of 2008. The interior design boffins also reveal it’s not just wall and hand mirrors catching our eye, but any things we can see our reflections is like mirrored furniture and accessories like jewellery boxes and even Christmas decorations.
According to top psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos, the fact that mirrors are most popular home product of the year is an interesting reflection of how we are feeling. Dr Linda said, "When we look at our own reflection we get a sense of familiarity. This can have the effect of making us feel more comfortable in our surroundings. In years gone by we may have commissioned a portrait of ourselves to produce the same effect, but these days hanging a mirror is a great way of achieving the same sense of belonging. Hanging mirrors in your home can be a good way of putting visitors at ease too, as they will feel a positive sense of familiarity."

Another surprise hit of the year was gold-coloured wallpaper. Not so long ago wallpaper was shunned as naff, but now it’s come-back’ is now complete as the second most popular home product of 2008. Other products making up the top five were sofas, cushions and curtains.
