The poll, which was commissioned by online department store Very.co.uk, found that Brits undertake a series of 'rituals' to get acquainted with their house. These include buying new furniture, being able to walk around the house naked, and getting breakfast in bed.
It was also found that those who live in the 'home counties' in the south of England find it easiest to settle in, with an average of 68.5 days, while those living in Yorkshire and the Humber gave their hearts less readily, with it taking them 88.5 days for their house to feel truly like their home.
Brits spend a total of £317.90 in the first year of living somewhere, to furnish their homes. The main furniture items were the obvious bed, TV and sofa, though those in the East Midlands also claimed they would have a massage table, perhaps to deal with the stress of moving into a new place.
Kevin Parkin, Head of Design at Very.co.uk said: ‘An English man or woman’s home is their castle and furnishings are essential for making a house a home. At Very we have a huge range of products and offer great trend advice, so whether it’s storage boxes or that all important new sofa, we have everything you need.”
