Over the past few years we’ve all become increasingly aware of the importance of recycling, with 90% of UK households recycling more now than they did 5 years ago.
In fact, 56% of people who took part in a recent recycling survey admitted to having felt guilty for binning something they knew was recyclable.
Yet despite our guilt, almost a quarter of us don’t use local recycling facilities or follow regulations and it seems a little education could be in order, with 45% completely unaware of what happens to their rubbish after it has been collected.
Some local councils line up countless bins and boxes for their residents to separate out their recyclable waste.
Perhaps unsurprisingly then, around 45% say they would recycle more if it was just a bit easier, while a quarter say if they could just throw all their recycling in one bin without having to separate it, their recycling habits would improve.
55% of those surveyed said they think more should be done by big companies to help people recycle properly.
As a result of this, coffee-makers Nespresso have teamed up with recycling experts Alupro to start an easy, new Capsule Recycling initiative for their 100% recyclable aluminium coffee capsules.
Listen to our podcast with eco-friendly comedian Alistair McGowan, whose green credentials include never having owned a car and recycling guru Rick Hindley from Alupro to reveal more about the research and give us some more tips for greener living.
