See Rare Hatching And Nesting Action - Broadcast Live From The Lost Gardens Of Heligan
Heliganwild.com’s cameras capture the excitement of birdlife in Spring, broadcasting live footage of Heligan Barn Owls sitting on eggs about to hatch at any moment!
Spring is in full swing at The Lost Gardens of Heligan this week, with online cameras capturing a sample of the exciting nesting and hatching action of its resident birdlife.
Like Big Brother for Barn Owls, HeliganWild.com has cameras trained on The Barn where a pair of barn owls, and a tawny owl, are nesting on 4 eggs. Their live images are broadcast live online so twitchers at home can see the first signs of the impending hatching.
Meanwhile at the Heligan Shop a pair of Great Tits have nested outside, much to the delight of shoppers. Images from this union are also available to view.
Spring has definitely sprung, as down at Horsemoor Hide are jackdaws; blue tits; and a tawny owl currently sitting on 2 eggs and a chick! However not all the action is at the hide as gardeners in the Heligan Nursery have had their routine disrupted, and are having to hand water the area, so as to not disturb a female pheasant who has made a nest amongst the micro-propagated rhododendrons. With a clutch of 9 eggs nobody wants to disturb her.
“It’s an exciting time at Heligan with lots of nesting and hatching action” says Peter Stafford, MD, the brains behind Heligan Wild. “Our cameras are designed to compliment Heligan’s on site wildlife experience, and enable enthusiasts across the world to watch Heligan Wildlife live.”
Heliganwild.com is designed to provide up to date news, videos and events and all the latest developments from Heligan’s Wildlife Team, and wildlife inhabitants.
The much acclaimed Lost Gardens, which celebrate their 21st anniversary since their discovery this year, are famous for their abundance, and sometimes rare, wild flora and fauna. However, what is less well-known is that the site also supports a diverse range of wildlife habitats through the sustainable management of its natural environments and habitats. Otters, owls, kingfishers, badgers and foxes are just some of species that reside in Heligan’s 200 acre estate. Heligan Wild was created to support this biodiversity, found within a patchwork of habitats throughout the historic Cornish estate.
“We hope to encourage the general public to appreciate and understand the typical flora and fauna found in the Cornish countryside” says Stafford, “With Heliganwild.com, people can now get a ringside view of Cornish nature in all its spectacular diversity - live.”
Heligan’s Horsemoor Hide is the focus for Heligan Wild and is situated in the middle of the estate, designed to give visitors close intimate views of the wildlife; either immediately outside or through a selection of remote cameras placed around the site. Included in this building is a large wildlife viewing area and interactive displays, consisting of photographs, videos and information gathered by the Wildlife Team.
