Keep smiling and exercise won't seem like a chore

We all know the importance of staying active, so why not take advantage of the weather to get outside and kick start your exercise? Going to the gym isn't for everyone, but there are loads of ways to keep active. Here are some of the best ways to ensure that you’re getting the exercise you need.

Go for a walk

Walking is often an underrated form of exercise but even walking at a moderate pace for half an hour can really benefit your health.

If you’re lucky enough to live near the countryside try discovering more of it by walking around it, with a friend if possible.

The trick with keeping up with this form of exercise is to build up your stamina. Start slowly and gradually build up for more challenging walks.

You could even have a go at running for a section of the walk – all good ways of burning more calories.

Change your mode of transport to work

Another easy way to kick start your active life is to change how you get to work. If you can walk part of the way, you’ll guarantee that you’ll get some daily exercise into your routine.

If you can’t resist having the comfort of driving to work, why not try parking slightly further away from work instead. That way you’ll be walking more during the day, even if it’s only for five minutes – it’s better than nothing.

Take the kids out

If you have the day off work or if you’re looking to stay active at the weekend, why not try taking the kids out to the park?

You’ll be on your feet and no doubt chasing around after them, which means that not only will they be burning excess energy but you will be too.

You could also regularly take out your dog if you have one to burn some calories. Make sure you’re walking at a decent pace and you’ll soon be on your way to getting more active this summer.

Make the exercise part of your routine

One of the main reasons why we don’t stay active is a lack of motivation or time. If you make the exercise part of your routine, it will become second nature to you to take the dog out or visit your local sports centre.

Remember also that if you’re looking to lose weight as well as staying fit that a balanced diet with a limited calorie intake is essential.

Try teaming up with a friend or family member – it’s a great way to keep on track and a competitive edge can help your motivation.
