With summer finally upon us and the hours spent in the gym and pounding the pavements starting to pay off, it's time to start thinking about how you can keep up the good work on holiday.
Whether you're heading abroad or staycationing in the UK, ultra-marathon runner and founder of BoomBoom Athletica performance clothing, Ann Johansson has put together her top holiday fitness tips that will keep you focused as well as feeling and looking great.
- If hitting the gym on holiday isn't for you, there are plenty of other ways to keep fit. Take advantage of the summer sunshine, lace up your trainers and go for a brisk walk. Exploring on foot will help you to discover the whole of the city and take in the sights. Walking is a great, low impact form of exercise and will even save you money on taxis. So many cities are now bike friendly, so if you can rent a bike, it's a great way to get around and a really fun way to spend the day.
- We spend the whole of the winter aching for summer, but when the sunshine hits, it's a lot harder to run or train. It's important to let your body adjust to the hotter holiday temperatures. At first it may be difficult for you to hit the speeds or distances you were managing at home. Don't be disheartened by this, just keep up the good work and make sure you're drinking lots of water to keep you energized and hydrated.
- It can be difficult to incorporate a workout into your holiday schedule, so try making a workout diary and then sticking to it. The key to this is scheduling workouts in the morning. That way, it's done and dusted before you have time to talk yourself out of it! Slightly cooler temperatures in the morning also means you don't have to worry about exercising in the blazing sunshine, which can make working out ten times harder and more uncomfortable.
- When packing your holiday workout essentials it is important to take lightweight kit which incorporates advanced fabrics that will help you to get the most from your session. I'd recommend packing the BoomBoom Athletica Racer tank, as the mesh panel offers excellent breathability and the high tech fabric is wicks sweat away for the skin, keeping you comfortable and able to focus on the task at hand.
- Exercising on holiday can also be a great way to unwind and have some fun. Signing up for an early evening yoga class is a great way to end a day spent relaxing in the sun. Have fun with friends or the kids and get jumping in the pool for a game of water polo for a great way to cool off!
Wherever you're heading, it's easier than you think to make exercise part of your holiday. You'll always feel better for it and as the saying goes, the only workout you regret, is the one you don't do!
