Hello readers, I hope you are all well. As you all know we are in the month of october and halloween is upon us. In this months column I have asked my friend Theresa who is a Reiki Master to share her thoughts on the true meaning of halloween with you.

The spiritual side to Halloween
There are many traditions attached to Halloween, and it carries many meanings for many groups of people. While a lot of people enjoy dressing up, and having parties, some of us seek out the old ways and the deeper spiritual meaning that it brings.
Today's modern celebrations originate from a pagan/Celticfestival called Samhain. It simply means summers end. It is a time of endings and new beginnings. It is also a special time of year when the veil between this world and that of the spirit world is at its thinnest. Imagine that there is only a soft veil between you and your loved ones at all times, and then imagine it as extra transparent at this time of year.
It is said that spirits are closer to us around this time and it is also a perfect time to remember those loved ones that have passed.
Spirit are forever sending us messages. Most of which we just don't seem to notice, due to living our busy lives. Try to use this special time of year to connect. And send love to those that came before us. It is a two way process with spirit, they love us to send our thoughts in any way, especially those of love.
In some groups or cultures, many rituals are performed where they try to connect between the realms. Anyone can try these, and they can be quite fun too. Spirit send us messages through some of these rituals and exercises, and they also create a good link between worlds.
There are many ways to contact spirit in a safe manner and I hold special workshops, using cards, tea leaf readings, scrying using bowls of water and mirrors and simple meditation/ intuition exercises. Scrying is an ancient form of divination, and simply means 'to see'.
However one can light a candle, burn some incense and play some spiritual soft music, and sit and send their thoughts to those they wish to have near. They are always close by, but at this time of year, even closer. Open up to the possibility of anyone coming to you, rather than one specific person for you are loved by all of your ancestors, no matter how long ago they were here before.
Tap into the spiritual side this year and give thanks and send love to those in spirit.
