Do you know any of the signs of bowel cancer?

Bowel cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death in the UK despite being treatable in 90% of cases if identified at the earliest stage – and what’s more surprising is that nearly half of men can’t even identify one of the signs of Bowel cancer.

Can you identify any signs?

As this month Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, AXA PPP healthcare have created a short animated film to raise awareness of the five main signs and symptoms of the disease. Hoping to address the issues associated with Britain’s second biggest killer.

More than 40,000 men and women are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK, and approximately 15,700 people die each year – that equates to one person every 30 minutes.

Watch the video below to find out all you need to know about bowel cancer.

The five signs of bowel cancer to look out for

  1. A change in your bowel habit for three weeks or more which may result in more frequent trips to the loo

2.   Unexplained weight loss

3.   Extreme tiredness for no apparent reason

4.   A pain in your tummy, from mild to more severe

5.   Blood in your poo or a bleeding bottom

People may experience one, some, all or none of these symptoms, and most of the time they will not be due to bowel cancer. Early detection can make all the difference and, if you show any of the signs or symptoms, you should get yourself checked by your GP or health professional
