A brand new 'BED' formula created by Dr. Craig Hudson promises a better sleep in one week.
As Britons bemoan an hour less sleep when the clocks go forward on 31 March, a scientist with more than 10 years’ experience in sleep disorder has identified the formula to the perfect night’s kip.
Dr Craig Hudson has developed the ‘BED’ equation based on rigorous clinical trials which chart the behavioral, environmental and dietary factors which impact quality of sleep, producing a ‘sleep score’ out of 10.
The checklist upon which the ‘BED’ formula is based prompts problem-sleepers to implement proven sleep-enhancing measures including:
Reducing noise and light distraction
Managing bedroom temperature at 21ºC
Exercising during the day
Avoiding protein three hours before bed
Limiting intake of alcohol and caffeine
Increasing carb intake such as bread or cereal in the evening
Dr Hudson, creator of bedtime beverage ZenBev, is a passionate advocate that pharmaceutical remedies such as sleeping pills have inherent drawbacks which outweigh the benefits – and that the brain can be trained to sleep better using natural and simple solutions.
He says: “If you stick with a few proven rules and lifestyle practices, the results will be more beneficial and last longer than any other alternative. Common misconceptions that you can ‘catch up’ on missed sleep from the previous night, or you can ‘bank’ sleep are a barrier to the real steps people can take to sleep more soundly.”
