Heart rates are soaring across the nation according to new research by Be A Better You. The survey of 1,000 UK adults who use the gym on a regular basis found that 48% of the gym goers put extra effort to look good for their personal trainer, this included styling hair (12%), putting on makeup (9%), buying new gym clothes (8%), shaving (6%) and tanning (4%).
1 in 10 have gone the extra mile and plucked up the courage to make a move or confess their feelings of attracttion to their personal trainer. Surprisingly, the survey revealed almost 1 in 4 (23%) clients who have crushed on their personal trainer's confessed to having shared a kiss with them and 7% divulged that they have even taken their workout to the bedroom.
Simon Bubb, managing director at Be A Better You, said "What we find interesting from the data is the amount of clients that are putting in that extra effort to look good for a training session rather than concentrating on their workout."
"Personal trainers expect their clients to break a sweat and that's what they are focused on, not their client's perfect hair and a fresh face of makeup. There could be some science behind the attraction as when you exercise, the body releases endorphins - feel good chemicals into the brain."
"The chemicals trigger a positive feeling and boost your mood when working out. Such happy and positive emotions can often be confused for attraction or associated with an individual if you spend a lot of time with them, in this instance - your personal trainer."
Gym goers in Newcastle were found to be the most brazen of the bunch, according to the research with 15% admitting to bagging a date with their personal trainer. Plymouth came in as the least flirty with only 3% of residents having had a date with their personal trainer.
