The fact that the London Marathon raises more money for charity than any other single event in the world should be a point of national pride.
With the race attracting up to a million spectators who line the course and previous races attracting millions of television viewers, REPs (the Register of Exercise Professionals) is hoping that the race can be a spring board inspiring more people to get involved in running, exercise, and getting healthy.
Jean-Ann Marnoch, the spokesperson for REPs said, “It is such a great event, with so many inspirational stories. For us, we love the fact that so many of the race’s ‘fun runners’ come from non-sporting backgrounds. It just shows that running really is for everyone.
“We want people to watch and realise that anyone can do it. REPs have professionalised the industry, so that everyone has access to exercise professionals that can ensure you find a regime that suits them. Whether you have never been to a gym in your life, or have run 10 marathons, there is always scope to improve your health and wellbeing with focussed training. REPs has ensured that registered professionals have the expertise to work with any ambitions and goals.
“The marathon is also a great example of how exercising with a group can make such a difference. The support and camaraderie that is felt by runners is actually replicated in exercise classes up and down the country every week. Doing exercise with a group is such a great way to get going and have fun in a social environment. Seeking the advice of professionals is paramount in avoiding common mistakes that can be made when running long distances and everything from sufficient hydration to your post-workout routine should be considered. Find a list of registered professionals who run classes near you on the REPs website.”
