Do your suffer with your legs?

If you’ve ever suffered with tired aching legs you are not alone. 70% of adults have experienced these symptoms, yet 41% suffer in silence according to new research.

Over half of adults in the UK suffer at least weekly and for many the pain is so bad that it affects them emotionally and socially as well as physically, finds the study from Daylong, a compression hosiery retailer.

Nearly a third have trouble sleeping, one in five feel miserable and one in ten won’t go out or will cancel social activities.

People tend to think of leg health related conditions as being more common amongst older age groups, however this may not be the case with 70% of 18-25 year olds having reported symptoms of tired aching legs.

Dr Rob Hicks, GP, comments: “Leg problems are very common. If left untreated aching legs can make it hard for people to work, sleep, or even do everyday things. Symptoms of tired aching legs include a pain or burning sensation in the legs, where the exact location of the discomfort is difficult to pinpoint. The discomfort often occurs when someone has been standing or sitting still for long periods. Lifestyle changes such as exercise and compression hosiery can help treat tired aching legs.”

As a nation we have become incredibly inactive, especially while at work with people sitting down for an average of nearly 2 and a half hours (2 hours 24 minutes) without ever getting up, which can contribute to tired aching legs.

According to the research 80% of those who wear compression hosiery have experienced health benefits including reduced pain, less aching, reduced swelling and increased comfort. However, half of people say they would avoid wearing compression hosiery as they believe it to be unattractive or unfashionable, however nowadays this is not the case at all.
