Steering clear of the chocolate is hard thing for some of us to do, but what if the fat content was replaced with fruit juice to make it a whole lot more nutritious?
Scientists at the University of Warwick have discovered a method that can do just that, which is only going to make us feel a whole lot less guilty about the chocolate fix we need every so often.
Research has shown that by infusing orange and cranberry juice to milk, white and dark chocolate, it’s possible to replace up to 50% of the fat content in chocolate.
Dr Stefan Bon, who led the study, says: “Everyone loves chocolate – but unfortunately we all know that many chocolate bars are high in fat.
“However it’s the fat that gives the chocolate all the indulgent sensations that people crave – the silky smooth texture and the way it melts in the mouth but still has a ‘snap’ to it when you break it in your hand.
“We’ve found a way to maintain all of those things that make chocolate ‘chocolatey’ but with fruit juice instead of fat.”
Even though the current technology gives the product a fruity taste, this can be reduced by using water and a small amount of vitamin C instead of fruit juice.
Who would have thought we would see the day when chocolate gets healthy and nutritious?
