When you’re sat in an office all day, it can be difficult to stay fit and healthy. Whether it’s a lack of activity or the temptation to give in to sweet snacks, it can be frustrating to try and keep an eye on your waistline.
That’s why we’ve put together these simple tips to help you to stay healthy in the workplace. It’s a problem more common than you think, but finally here is the solution.
Take a break every 20 minutes
If you’re working at a computer, it’s vital to take a break every 20 minutes or so. Try to get up and walk somewhere, but make sure you give your eyes a break too. Look at something far away for 20 seconds before getting back to work.
Get out and about at dinner
Take the opportunity to go outside during your dinner break. Even a brisk 10 minute walk will get your heart racing. You could also try keeping more active within the office itself by walking around more rather than emailing or phoning your colleagues.
Avoid unhealthy snacks
As difficult as it can be, another top tip to stay healthy in the workplace is to avoid unhealthy snacks, including cakes, biscuits and chocolate. Try taking your own snacks to work such as fruit, nuts or cereal bars so that you aren’t tempted to eat anything else.
Eating little and often is a great way to keep your hunger at bay. Always have a filling breakfast such as porridge to start the day and pack your own lunch to work as a healthier option.
Why not also try to reward yourself? Once you’ve done a period of hard work, reward yourself with a healthy snack. Not only will your health feel the benefit but you’ll be more motivated to do the work too.
Stay hydrated
One of the most important aspects of staying in the workplace is to stay hydrated. Always keep a glass of water on your desk to remind you to drink regularly and avoid sugary drinks.
Why not try sipping water every time you take a break to ensure that you are staying hydrated? Concentration levels can be severely affected even by mild dehydration, so ensure you’re drinking enough to stay on top form in the workplace.
Don’t stop when you get home
After a long day, it’s tempting just to sit in front of the TV, but remember that you have been sitting down all day already. Try to stay on your feet as long as possible, even if it’s just through doing household tasks – you’ll feel better for staying active for longer!
