The gym is being forgotten in favour of the great outdoors as research shows that one in three women are shunning working out at the gym.
Proving to be a real breath of fresh air, fifty six percent of these ‘gym ditchers’ said they would definitely not be returning.
The increasing popularity of functional workouts, boot camps and small group personal training sessions has fuelled the growth in the number of outdoor exercise options available to the consumer.
The UK has seen a huge increase in the number of mass participation events in sports such as running and cycling, which has helped moved more of us out of the gym and into our parks and open areas.
Being cheaper was one of the main reasons women have decided to ditch the gym, but they also admitted that they feel more comfortable exercising in a less confined space with people watching.
Scott Hodson, creator of MatesRatesForFitness which helps consumers find the best local fitness options available, says: “For any consumer looking to use a fitness professional beyond the realm of a gym, it can sometimes be a little daunting and choosing the gym seems the safer and easier option. What this actually does is cut out some of the very best fitness professionals that are actually much closer and more affordable.
“For local fitness professionals offering bootcamp and personal training services, word of mouth recommendation is extremely important, and increasingly more so in the social age that we have entered. Our directory aims to be the trusted, go-to platform for consumers to go when looking to enroll the services any class, across the UK. The review system makes the process so much transparent than it ever has been, and will help to promote best practice and quality of service among fitness professionals.”
