As we all get ready to enjoy the festive period, and of course that means Christmas dinner, more than 6 million Brits are dreading the festivities due to suffering the consequences of having a food intolerance.
The research, which polled 1010 people with food intolerances, found that three in ten people suffer from lactose intolerance and more than a quarter of them miss being able to have cheese as a result of their food intolerance – a food favoured by many over Christmas.
Over a quarter of Brits who ignored their food intolerance suffered diarrhoea and stomach cramps. As a result of ignoring their food intolerance, 12% of Brits said they felt bloated all day and 11% said they were sick. 4% admit they had to take time off of work as a result of ignoring their food intolerance.
What's more, a quarter will avoid going to social events where there will be no options for them, according to the research from Lactofree. Another 25% admit that they feel left out at events as they can’t enjoy the whole experience.
The most missed foods due to intolerances are breac, cheese, cookies and cakes.
