BOKWA fitness

BOKWA fitness

If you have not heard anything about it before, it is a new and completely different approach to group exercise that is rapidly spreading across the globe.

It is the brainchild of dancer and fitness instructor Paul Mavi who had such a passion for his South African roots that he wanted to introduce it into his routines.

Bokwa is derived from a combination of two words – ‘Bo’ which represents the light boxing and ‘kwa’ represents the South African war dance Kwaito.

Bokwa participants draw letters and numbers with their feet while performing an energizing and addictive cardio workout routine. Moving together to today’s most popular music, participants off all ages draw the BokwaL, 3, J, K and dozens of other steps.

Because Bokwasteps are structured and based on the forms of letters and numbers, doing Bokwa does not require you to count steps, like a traditional 8 count followed by most dance fitness programs.

The steps are structured as letters and numbers so everyone can do Bokwa. 4-year-old kids,  75 year old men and women, people with two left feet who cannot dance, world champion Latin and ballroom dancers can all have a terrific experience in the same class.

Pure gym have rolled out the South African dance class Bokwa in 30 of their gyms this year.
