Obesity figures are on a constant increase and no doubt the reason for that has been revealed today after a new report has discovered more than half of all meals eaten out in Britain are from fast food restaurants.
This is the first time ever that the figure has reached the half way mark, with 50.4 percent of meals bought outside the home being burgers, chips, kebabs and pizzas from fast food outlets.
This is up from the 2008 figure of 47.3 percent and amounts to a total of 5.54billion fast food meals a year.
As obesity continues to rise and the economy remains poor, cash-strapped families are obviously favouring a cheap take-out meal rather than a more expensive meal in a full service restaurant. With the cost of an average meal in KFC or McDonalds aroud a fiver, it is in a sense good value for money.
The figures, which come from independant food services analysts NPD, however only strengthen the worry that the obesity crisis is moving further away from being solved.
Hugely popular fast food chain McDonalds are the official sponser of the 2012 London Olympic games and are planning to open a further 30 drive through restaurants across the country this year.
