Forget the little blue pill; it’s the little blueberry that will make you feel fruity this Valentine’s Day.
Eating a cup full of blueberries once a day may help spice up your sex life, says nutritionist Dora Walsh and spokesperson for soft fruit campaign, Seasonal Berries.
The berries contain plant chemicals, proanthocyanidins, believed to keep blood vessels flexible and blood flowing around the body that could work wonders in bringing an added dose of va va voom to the bedroom.
Blueberries are also packed full of soluble fibre which many people consume to help push excess cholesterol through the digestive system before it can be broken down, and deposited along the walls of the arteries. Clear arteries are important for heart health - the key to a good sex life.
Nutritionist Dora Walsh said: “Blueberries can easily be incorporated into what we eat every week. Blueberries are a great source of the nutrient manganese which helps us get energy from food – all important for Valentines night. Proanthocyanadins also help relax your blood vessels which transport blood to all parts of the body which is really important for sexual arousal.
Blueberries not only make you feel great, many of my clients eat them for skin health and their nutrient content could hold the key to giving our skin a Valentine’s glow, which makes us more attractive to the opposite sex.”
Foods play a vital role in maintaining a healthy sex life. Not only can an unhealthy diet make you pile on the pounds, but it can also leave you feeling like a flop in the bedroom.
