With high levels of air pollution continuing in the UK, LloydsPharmacy is offering advice on how to avoid being affected.
According to Louise Baglole, LloydsPharmacy’s asthma specialist: “Some of our pharmacists are reporting that they have seen people presenting with symptoms related to the smog cloud in the affected areas. As well as those experiencing breathing difficulties, our pharmacists have seen customers come in with inflamed eyes, which they suspect is from the sand.
“In particular, we’ve had people with asthma in need of support – our pharmacists have helped them with an asthma check-up, where we can make sure they are using the right inhaler technique and are taking the preventative inhaler as well as keeping their reliever to hand. If anyone is worried or experiencing symptoms that they think may be related to the smog, they can speak to their local pharmacist for support.”
LloydsPharmacy’s top tips on how to avoid being affected by high levels of air pollution:
If you have breathing conditions, like asthma, avoid doing strenuous activity outdoors and make sure you carry your inhaler with you at all times.
If you have asthma, make sure you know how to use your inhalers properly - you can visit your local LloydsPharmacy for advice on how to use your inhaler effectively.
If the air feels particularly dusty and you don’t have a mask, a scarf can help to minimise the effects.
Where possible, wear sunglasses to protect the eyes from airbourne dust particles.
