Romantic guys hoping to have a sexy Valentines day treat may be in for a big dissapointment as research released reveals that bloating is the most common complaint of digestive discomfort can have a negative effect on a woman’s sex life. Figures show that nearly half (46 %) of UK women surveyed are less likely to get steamy between the sheets when they feel bloated.

However, the worry doesn’t stop there. Gentlemen, if you do get lucky with your lady this Valentine’s Day, she may still have hang-ups. Research from yoghurt brand Activia® shows that a bloated tummy feeling also affects women’s sex lives by denting their confidence (41 %) and making them feel uncomfortable (41 %). Topping that, almost 10 per cent of ladies will swap sexual positions to hide their tummy.

Corinne Chant said: "A lot of women can feel sluggish and bloated after Christmas, and yet just six weeks later, on Valentine’s Day, we are encouraged to be at our most sexy. But women shouldn’t worry, feeling bloated is often a sign of digestive discomfort and there are many ways they can help their digestive health just by giving themselves some Tummy Loving Care."

Dr Sarah Brewer, nutrition expert and GP, said: "We all want to feel confident and look our best on Valentine’s Day, but even if you’re in the sauciest of smalls, if you feel bloated you’re more likely to feel solid than sexy. There are a number of things women can do to help their digestive health by reducing that bloated feeling in the run up to the big day. The digestive system is like the engine of the body; it absorbs all the nutrients and minerals the body needs for its overall wellbeing. Eating yoghurt containing the healthy bacteria, Bifidius ActiRegularis, is just one easy way women can help reduce their digestive discomfort and embarrassing tummy rumbles for this Valentine’s Day. Known as borborygmi, these rumblings can also ruin a romantic occasion and when you’re feeling happier on the inside it shows on the outside and can really boost your confidence."

Almost 60 per cent of women experience occasional digestive discomfort, and one in four experience it regularly at least several times a week. The research also shows a huge 46 per cent reported their waist size increases by up to two inches over the course of the day and 40 per cent pinpoint their evening meal, the typical Valentine’s activity, as the worst trigger for feeling uncomfortable.

So ladies if you want more fun between the sheets sort that tummy out
