Use natural ways to boost your immune system this winter and that means plenty of healthy eating and nutrition.
Dr Prasanna Kerur Ayurvedic Consultant at the Ayush Wellness Spa, gives us his top tips on boosting immunity the Ayurvedic way …
Dr Prasanna’s immune boost tips:
BODY
v Eat light, freshly cooked and easily digestible food, avoid excess dairy and wheat and take in plenty of fruit and vegetables like Indian gooseberries, oranges, radish, peppers and garlic.
v Make your own herbal teas containing Ginger, Turmeric, Cumin seeds and Cinnamon and sip 5-6 cups all day long.
v Ease symptoms by taking quarter teaspoonfuls of turmeric powder mixed with honey twice a day, along with plenty of warm water or herbal teas.
v Apply a thin barrier of almond oil or coconut oil or sesame oil.
v Exercise, but don't overdo it. Practice yoga, pranayama (breathing exercises) and walking to relax the mind and tone the body.
v Avoid frozen, cold, processed food and ice cold beverages including alcohol.
MIND
v Meditate to help keep the mind and emotions balanced.
v Breathe easy by practicing Pranayama (lengthening of the ‘prana’ or breath) that enhances flow of prana/life force which will help to bring balance back.
