Spending hours working out to achieve your perfect body is most people's idea of a nightmare, mine too, but with the top tried and tested workouts revealed, we no longer have too.
If climbing into a cradle for anti-gravity yoga, saddling up for hydro-spinning or channelling your inner Miley Cyrus for a ‘Twerkout’ sounds a step too far when it comes to working out, then the results of a new survey from The Gym could help you get fit without the fuss and achieve the body you want without jumping on the latest fitness craze.
Over 1,000 members of The Gym, revealed their best and most effective workouts that got them the results they wanted. Gizmos and gimmicks got the push in favour of tried and tested exercises to tone and sculpt the abs, glutes and biceps.
For washboard abs, 30 per cent of members said Crunchies were the best way of banishing a belly and this was closely followed by 23 per cent saying Sit Ups and 22 per cent preferring The Plank.
Just under two thirds of The Gym members said that Squats were the most effective way to strengthen and tone the glutes for a firm and shapely bottom. When it came to beautiful biceps, 60 per cent of members believed the Dumbbell Bicep Curl got them the results they wanted. For members who’d worked hard to perfect toned shoulders and a strong core, the Shoulder Press was voted the best exercise by two thirds.
For the quickest and most effective way of burning calories and shedding the pounds, the Treadmill topped the list of delivering the best cardio workout for 41 per cent of members. This was followed by Cross Trainer and Rowing Machine which tied in second place with 19 per cent.
John Treharne, CEO, says: “As people embark on their New Year fitness regimes, it’s very easy to get carried away by the latest fads that may or may not deliver the results they want. Our members’ survey has shown that some of the most effective ways to get fit and stay in shape can be those tried and test exercises we all know and love.”
