An avocado at lunch could be the answer to weight management, as research shows it’s less likely you’ll snack if you eat one a day.
The results of a new study, published in Nutrition Journal, showed that participants who had half an avocado with their lunch reduced their desire to eat three hours after lunch by 40%.
The findings support other evidence of avocados’ health benefits, especially as a source of naturally good fats that help lower levels of bad cholesterol.
Study leader, Dr Joan Sabate, a nutritionist from Loma Linda University, in California, told the Mail Online: ‘Satiety is an important factor in weight management, because people who feel satisfied are less likely to snack between meals.
‘We noted that though adding avocados increased participants' calorie and carbohydrate intake at lunch, there was no increase in blood sugar levels beyond what was observed after eating the standard lunch.
‘This leads us to believe that avocados’ potential role in blood sugar management is worth further investigation.’
