You've just signed up to take part in the big Sport Relief challenge, why did you want to get involved?
Well Sport Relief is such a great charity to begin with and I am quite a sporty gal and love a challenge. Representing your own country is something you dream of doing as a kid, but never being fit enough this is the perfect opportunity for some patriotic competition... National Pride will egg us on!
Who will you be doing this with?
My team consists of Craig Doyle, Diarmuid Gavin, Allan Campbell, Shane Byrne, Joe Barr Alan Quinlan, Sonia O’Sullivan, Paddy Johns and Ian Moore. We are all determined to win... but we have seen the Welsh team. We think they have an unfair advantage in the names of Gareth Thomas, Iowan Thomas, Gethin Jones. The list goes on...!
What sort of preparation will you be doing to get you ready for it?
I train 3 times a week and I have started attending outdoor classes with British Military Fitness. I am also trying to get 'row' fit, because there is about an hour non-stop rowing to be done!
Will you change your diet much?
I eat quite healthily anyway but I will be adjusting it as we get into harder training periods. Wow. I sound like an Olympian. Except I'm not.
How else do you stay in shape?
I started Pilates about a year ago and love it! And now my training with British Military Fitness is great for that extra all over body fitness.
What motivational tips do you have for exercise?
Don't be too hard on yourself. Do what you can when you can and don't beat yourself up if you have a off day or you cave in to a chocolate bar! You can always get back in the saddle again tomorrow. And I am a firm believer in training smarter not harder. You can overdo it and ruin your hard work!
You're currently working with British Military Fitness, what are the benefits of working outside in a group?
Extra motivation! We just did some research and found that over a third of those that signed up for a gym membership this year will quit by the end of January. Even more surprising was the find that four in five of us want to give up on an exercise session after just twenty minutes. When you work out in a group there is a fantastic support element and everyone is very encouraging. You feel like you don't want to let them down! Most of all it's fun!
Do you follow a strict diet?
I am a good girl mid week and let go on the weekend. You have to give yourself something to look forward to! Your body thanks you for it.
What's your ultimate diet tip?
Try to eat as much fresh produce as possible. I also like to detox once a year for a week, with fresh vegetable juices only. It gives the system a break from all the hard work we make it do during the year.
