Get back to your sleeping pattern.
The New Year, Christmas parties and days of drinking can throw the sleeping pattern out of control. The first few nights will be hard but to get out of the habit try to get 8 hours of sleep a night (no more sleeping in!). Get to bed at the same time each night and you’ll begin to find your sleeping pattern back to normal.
Find it hard to sleep at night? Wind down with a bath or a light hearted book. Avoid your mobile phone, television and the internet an hour before you go to bed. Electrical equipment can pollute the brain with radio active sound waves, which will keep you tuned in instead of switching off.
No more drinking…for a week at least.
Alcohol is the worst culprit for our winter blues and bad skin. Now it’s time to ditch the bingeing. Drinking no alcohol will give your body a chance to hydrate and replenish the Liver. In place of the demon beverage, drink fruit smoothies which will take out impurities. Within a week you’ll find your skin is less prone to blemishes and you’ll soon be ready to face everyday life.
Exercise (sorry!)
Yes, unfortunately there is no better cure than to keep active. Exercise is best for a detox because it revitalises the body and triggers the “happy hormone” that replenishes from the inside to the outside. If the idea of running in the wintry weather leaves you feeling less motivated, try out the various exercise home technology systems. They tone the muscles and help you shift the Christmas weight. It’s like having a gym in your living room.
Exercising with a friend will keep you motivated and spirit levels at an all time high. Remember to drink water frequently to get the best results.
The new realistic diet
It’s all about going back to the basics. People are trying to find faster ways to get the “dream body” that is unrealistic and unhealthy. Going back to the old way of dieting, is the new step forward. It’s all about eliminating the foods that contain high amounts of sugar and fats.
Foods to stay away from:
- Microwave meals
- Red meats
- Salt
- Sugar
- Milk, Cheese, Margarine
- Fried food
Stock up on:
- Water
- Fruit (especially fresh lemon)
- Vegetables (boiled)
- Chicken
- Watercress
- Garlic
Smile!
There is nothing better than sending positive vibes through a smile. The muscles in your face tighten when smiling, toning the face which usually gets forgotten in everyday exercise. Take the time to find something that makes you smile and you’ll be set for the day.
REMEMBER: A detox doesn’t have to be doom and gloom. Get a friend or family member to detox with you.
Go for the healthy options that you enjoy instead of forcing down vegetables that you despise will make the detox a negative experience than a fun one.
