The lingonberry, an incredible foraged fruit from the forests of Finland, is set for its UK debut as the new superfood of 2012.
The fruit will be available to buy from what is thought to be the only company in the UK to import the dried lingonberry fruit, graze.com.
Eleanor Freeman from graze.com said; “Packed with a cocktail of vitamins and minerals the lingonberry is an incredible, though surprisingly under appreciated fruit!
"We predict the humble lingonberry to be one of the big new superfoods of 2012 and are really excited to be including it in one of our healthiest punnets!”
Foraged from the floors of Norwegian forests the berries have been used in folk medicine for generations and in preserves, though never widely available in dried form.
The berries kick a powerful health punch, containing vitamin C, beta carotene, B vitamins (B1, B2, B3), and the essential minerals potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus.
Lingonberries have the highest amount of antioxidants when compared to all other berries. These antioxidants are useful in the prevention of heart disease, stroke and are powerful in the anti-aging realm. Lingonberries also have antimicrobial properties, which means they can kill bacteria.
