With temperatures forecast to reach up to 23 degrees in the UK this bank holiday weekend, Boots is warning that over half (59%) of Brits could be risking their health as they don’t start thinking about wearing sun protection until at least June, if at all.

Research from Boots has revealed that only two out of five (41%) of us start thinking about wearing sun protection during April and May, despite the high temperatures we’re increasingly experiencing during these months.

Furthermore, nearly one in ten of Brits do not ever wear sun protection in the UK.

Boots Suncare Scientific Advisor, Mike Brown comments: "It’s a concern that some people may choose not to wear sun protection in May - particularly if it starts to get hot. We should base our decision to wear suncream on the weather and UV index, not the month.

"Just one instance of sunburn can increase the risk of skin cancer, so to prevent serious risks to your health as well as painful sunburn, it is essential to wear sun protection with a high SPF and UVA rating, preferably 5 star rated."
