Lily Allen announced she was pregnant again on her wedding day

Over the past year, we've seen in the media the awful news about celebrities losing their baby's late-on in their pregnancy; Lily Allen, Amanda Holden and Kelly Brook have suffered this awful fate.

New research indicates that two-thirds of women with recurrent miscarriages end up having another child, after referral to a specialist clinic.

The first long-term follow-up study that looked at the chances of having a live birth after recurrent miscarriage (RM) found that two-thirds of women had at least one live birth after referral to specialist investigation.

Marie Lund, a medical intern and research assistant at a hospital in Denmark, said that her team's research would help give couples a more realistic prognosis of their chances of having a child after RM.

"We found that, of all the women included in teh study, 66.7 per cent had achieved a subsequent live birth within five years after their first consultation in our clinic, and this this increased to 71.1 per cent within 15 years after the first consultation," says study leader, Professor Ole Chritiansen.

Most studies of RM to date have looked at miscarriage rate in the next pregnancy as an outcome measure. "Because an essential part of the management of couples with RM is to be able to advise on the prognosis for future pregnancy outcome, we performed this study to investigte the outcome measure of live birth after a certain time period.

"We hope that estimating the chances having a live-born child will give couples affected by RM a more realistic prognosis for future pregnancy sucess," concludes Professor Christiansen.
