Sky and English National Ballet create the ultimate guide to postural perfection in the workplace

Ever wondered how news readers have such perfect posture while sitting at their news desks? Well Sky holds the secret. Their news readers have been lucky enough to receive a private postural tutorial from English National Ballet in an effort to cure their C.O.P.S - Chronic Office Posture Syndrome. Initially created to improve the posture of slouchy Sky News presenters such as Anna Botting, Sky’s Postural guide is now available for everyone to download from www.skyarts.co.uk/enb or www.ballet.org.uk.

Research shows that poor posture can decrease height by as much as two to three inches and worryingly, can affect breathing capacity, digestion and back health - a serious concern for office workers across the UK. English National Ballet has been working with Sky to tackle C.O.P.S by creating a unique guide to the perfect office posture - so even the biggest sloth can have the posture of a prima ballerina.

As sponsors of English National Ballet, Sky has worked with the world-renowned Company since 2003. With over 15,000 employees up and down the country, Sky realised the benefits of having the posturally-perfect experts at English National Ballet regularly visiting the company’s offices to give workshops, helping people think about their posture throughout the day.

Lucy Milton, Sky’s Head of Arts, Sponsorship & Community Investment commented: "It’s not very often you see a world class ballet dancer in a news room or at a contact centre - but it’s amazing how much we’ve learnt from English National Ballet. We’re all guilty of slouching at our desks, but when you see the elegance of the dancers it makes you realise the importance of good posture."

Agnes Oaks, star ballerina at English National Ballet explains: "If you stand up straight with your shoulders down, your tummy in and everything in alignment you look taller, slimmer and more beautiful. This applies as much in everyday life as on stage - good posture makes you look elegant and self-assured."
