Expectant mothers will be provided with extra knowledge

Midwives will be given extra training on how to advise expectant mothers about the risks of drinking whilst pregnant.

The new training scheme will be run by the National Organisation for Foetal Alcohol Syndrome is being funded by drinks giant Diageo.

The project is expected to aid more than one million pregnant women over a three-year period.

The government guidance for drinking whilst pregnant is not to do, but if they do, then to only drink one-to-two units, once or twice a week.
