11 March 2007 - The Everyman Male Cancer Campaign is calling on men and women of all ages to organise sponsored walks over the coming months as part of a new fundraising campaign called The Big Stride. Walkers are limited only by their imaginations so Big Strides can range from family strolls round the park to coast-to-coast hikes in fancy dress!
The walks are a great opportunity to socialise and keep fit whilst also raising money for Everyman's vital research into prostate and testicular cancer. In the UK, prostate cancer kills one man every hour and is the most common cancer in men, with over 30,000 cases diagnosed each year. Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men from 15-45 and incidence is increasing dramatically, by almost 4-fold in the last 50 years.
Alison Morgan from the Everyman Campaign said: "The Big Stride is a great way to help Everyman cross out male cancer whilst keeping fit at the same time. Evidence has shown that regular, moderate physical activity, such as walking, can reduce your cancer risk, so there's all the more reason to take part!"
The Everyman Campaign is run by The Institute of Cancer Research to raise awareness of, and fund research into, testicular and prostate cancer at its Everyman Centre - Europe's first and only research centre dedicated to male cancer.
