Women are invited to join soap star Kellie Shirley and run for Mencap in London
Kellie Shirley, the actress who plays the character of Carly Wicks in BBC soap Eastenders, is calling on London women of all ages and levels of fitness, to swap their high heels for trainers and run the Hydro Active Women's Challenge for UK learning disability charity Mencap.
The 5km women-only Challenge will take place on Sunday 16 September 2007 at London's Hyde Park.
Kellie, who is taking part in the Challenge for Mencap said: "The Hydro Active Women's Challenge is the perfect way to have fun whilst raising money for Mencap with your friends. As an ambassador for the charity, who has seen first hand the brilliant work that Mencap do, I know you will be making a huge difference to the 1.5 million people with alearning disability in the UK.
"By wearing your Mencap vest around the course in London's Hyde Park you will be helping Mencap continue to challenge attitudes and prejudice towards people with a learning disability."
The event is now in its fourth year and demand for places is limited. It is the leading 5km women-only race in the UK.
To take part in the Hydro Active Women's Challenge there is a minimum sponsorship fee of £15, of which £5 will go straight to Mencap.
