WAGs Boutique stars launch Cancer Research UKs search for the nations brides
Footballers Wives and real-life brides-to-be Charlotte Mears and Heather Swan are helping to launch Cancer Research UKs search for the nations brides. The stars of ITV2s WAGs Boutique, who are both getting married to their footballing partners in the next 12 months, are kicking -off the campaign to find a local bride for each of the Race for Life events happening on One Big Day on 3rd June.
Now in its 14th year, Cancer Research UKs Race for Life, supported by Tesco is the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK. Following the huge success of the event in 2006, Race for Life is again hosting One Big Day, on 3rd June 2007, with 24 races taking place at 16 different venues across the country on the same day. The charity is expecting to raise over £850,000 on this day alone to help beat cancer by bringing together more than 110,000 women.
To mark One Big Day, Cancer Research UK is looking for recent brides and brides-to-be who have been affected by cancer in some way either directly or indirectly - to help start their local race. Charlotte engaged to Spurs and England ace Jermain Defoe - will be taking part in Race for Lifes One Big Day celebrations, running in memory of her grandfather, alongside Heather, who is engaged to Cardiff City striker Michael Chopra.
Charlotte Mears, said: Its really important that as many women as possible participate in Cancer Research UK's Race for Life this year and raise money for its life saving work. My grandfather died of cancer so I understand how this disease touches so many families and how hard Cancer Research UK is working to beat it. Although I am really excited to be getting married, I haven't set a date for my own big day yet - instead, I'm going to be asking all my friends and family to sponsor me for my run on Race for Life's One Big Day.
Heather Swan, said: The biggest day in a womans life is her wedding day and Im no different I cant wait for mine at the start of next year in Ireland. Race for Life's One Big Day is another occasion that means a lot to so many women and I cant wait to take part in Race for Life on June 3rd and raise as much money as possible for Cancer Research UK.
