Heart attacks have greater chance of being inherited

There's more reason to worry if your parents have a heart attack, than if they have had a stroke, researchers have found.

The new study revealed that people are more likely to inherit the risk of having a heart attack than the risk of having a stroke.

The research was conducted by scientists at the University of Oxford and was published yesterday in the journal Circulation: Cardiovascular Genetics.

They found that having one parent who'd had a heart attack increased the risk of having one themselves by 1.5 times and having both parents suffer from them, increased the risk six times.
