Most things come with a digital option now, why not a doctor?

Trying to find the time to fit in a doctors appointment proves quite a difficult task - unless you willing to take time out of work.

Now, thankfully Lloydspharmacy have designed something which will help to reduce the worry of missing out of vital hours at work.

They've launched the UK's first private doctor video consultation service.

This innovative new system will allow customers to have a consultation with a doctor via a live video link and will be available from a consulting room in the recently opened Health Village - a new concept in retail healthcare developed by Lloydspharmacy in Brent Cross, London.

The service builds on the company's wealth of experience in remote diagnosis having launched its Online Doctor three years ago. Since then, more than 200,000 patients have used the service which offers discreet and convenient solutions for a range of medical conditions.

Dr Thom Van Every, Lloydspharmacy's Medical Director, says: "Since launching our Online Doctor service in 2008 we've had an extremely positive response from customers. This technology allows us to take things a step further: it's an opportunity for those who may not have time to visit their GP, or may wish to discuss sensitive issues, such as their sexual health, to have a medical consultations - but via a live video link."

This may just be the perfect way to get your heart checked out. Today is World Heart Day and cardiovascular disease, including heart disease and stroke, is the world's largest killer.

Shafeeque Mohammed, clinical pharmacist and heart health expert at Lloydspharmacy says: “Keeping your heart healthy – including maintaining healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels - are essential to living a long and healthy life. Heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death but can be prevented with a healthier lifestyle, including regular exercise.

"We strongly encourage people to have a Cholesterol and Heart Check at Lloydspharmacy. The test takes around 15 minutes and includes a lifestyle analysis along with blood pressure and cholesterol measurements. Our computer programme will then calculate your individual risk of developing heart disease or stroke over the next 10 years and our pharmacists can put together an action plan for people at risk to put them back on the road to having a healthy heart.”
