Make your weekly shop healthier in one click
The NHS Choices Supermarket Health Checker on mySupermarket.co.uk offers you healthier choices based on calories, fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar. You select the swaps you want to make as you shop and then watch the health content of your trolley improve.
A step-by-step guide
As you fill your trolley with food, a health check will run that searches for healthier alternatives to the products you've selected. These healthier alternatives will cut the levels of calories, fat, saturated fat, salt and sugar in your shopping.
A toolbar will then show you how much you can cut by swapping for these alternatives. This is updated every time you add an item, and the suggested swaps are based on the foods you have picked. If you can?t see it, click on the small arrow on the right.
When you click on the Swap & Cut button on the toolbar, you are taken to the Health Checker where you can look at the suggested swaps.
Byusing the 'Arrange by' dropdown menu, you can see alternative products based on their levels of calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar or salt.
The food items with the largest savings in your chosen category will be displayed first, followed by additional healthy food choices that offer savings in other areas. The category that the saving applies to, as well as the amount of potential savings, is displayed below the Swap & Cut icon between the columns.
Click the Swap button underneath the product to make the swap. A message will appear, listing all the health savings you made on that swap. If you change your mind, you can click on Cancel Swap to undo and return to your original item.
There is also a 5 A DAY portion counter that displays how many portions of fruit and vegetables you have in your trolley. This is based on the average portion weighing 80g. If you would like to increase this you can go to the 5 A DAY shelf, where there is a wide range of fruit, vegetable, juice and smoothie choices that all count towards your 5 A DAY.
