Get the most for your health with your phone applications

The first ever Health App of the Week takes a look at Fitbit, a free Apple & Android mobile app that is designed to help users reach their health and fitness goals.

You may have heard of the Fitbit Ultra wireless activity tracker, an ‘appcessory’ which monitors steps, calories, distance, sleep and even stairs climbed. The tracker automatically syncs this information to a personal web profile on Fitbit.com to give you a full picture of your progress every day and over time (there are also lots of motivational tools to help you).

Fitbit’s mobile app lets  you log food and activities and get a snapshot of progress towards your health and fitness goals while you’re on the move. Key features include:

Food and Activity Logging – Log food, water, workouts and weight from your Android. You can even use the app when you’re offline so no food or activity ever gets forgotten.

Food Goal - Whether you’re trying to maintain, gain or lose weight, Food Goal sets a calorie intake plan catered to your body, goals and lifestyle. Unlike with other calorie apps, your calorie zone will automatically adjust based on how active you are throughout the day.

Daily and Weekly Graphs – The app keeps tabs on your goals from up to two weeks ago. See your current Steps and Calories Burned data by syncing your Fitbit Wireless Tracker with a base station.

Will you be downloading this app? If you do let us know what you think of it in the comments below.
